A song about SELF-RESPECT
© 2007 Donald C. Elbreg

Do you smile and treat others nicely?
If not, you should give it a go.
If you follow this advice precisely,
I’m sure that your self-respect will grow.

Do you do your personal best each day
to be the best that you can be?
When you try to do your best each day
it’ll get easier you’ll see.

These are the things
that help me do and be my best.
All the things that make me proud
and make my heart beat in my chest.

Each time I look in the mirror,
there are two things I’ll hope to see.
They’re the look in my eye
and the smile on my face,
when I’m the best me I can be.

Are you patient when you have something to say,
even though it may be someone else’s turn to speak?
Do you follow all of the rules of the games you play,
like four-square, freeze-tag, hop-scotch, and hide-and-seek?

Do you wash your hands, comb your hair,
and brush your teeth so brightly?
Do sit up straight while in your chair,
ask questions, and speak politely?

These are the things
that help me do and be my best.
All the things that make me proud
and make my heart beat in my chest.

Each time I look in the mirror,
there are two things I’ll hope to see.
They’re the look in my eye
and the smile on my face,
when I’m the best me I can be.

When I’m the best me I can be.
